This is an old revision of the document!

General Questions

Do you use real fur?

No! Only the fluffiest, finest faux-furs we can find! We also use fleece, scaly fabrics, scuba, spandex and lots and lots of other stuff too.

Why do you make Tails, Ears and Wings?

Because evolution was unkind to us, wasn’t it!

Who wears Tails, Ears and Wings?

All different kinds of people – from Cosplayers to Furries, from Performers to Neko folks to Costume Designers and LARPers. And with 1000s of our items out in the wild, this is the best place to get that extra limb you have always wanted. Heres a little blog post about that very topic!

Is your gear suitable for children?

Our MiTail Minis are often worn by kids - bunnies, huskies, deer, little tails -just remember our tails are not classed as toys, and should be worn supervised. I have to say that bit!

Is your gear a toy?

So our tails and ears not officially classified as toys - lots of kids wear them - but they should be worn supervised. Remember they would need a phone or tablet to control them

What does a NAKED Tail / Ears / Wings mean?

Thats our gear without a cover for those that want to make their own. We can get you a pattern if you would like, too!

What is the price of the gear?

Our MiTail Minis are the most affordable - Bunnies, Huskies, Deer.. and we could make other small tails too. All are app controlled, with Walk Mode and the bigger ones can have Glow Tips too!

In which currencies can I pay?

You can switch the currency that our store displays prices in, by using the orange box on the left hand side of your screen.

Can I order customized gear?

Hey

Custom Tails

Have a look at the link above. Pick the size you want, and let us know any other details about it on the checkout page!

Theres a box that looks like this:

This is the easiest way to tell us what you want and you can attach an image there too

How do I order?

To let us know what you want, just put the gear or bundle you want in to the cart, and go to the Checkout page.

Then just fill in the box that is about half way down that looks like this:

Theres a link to upload an image on the checkout page there too!

How long will it take until I get my order?

So tails take around 4 weeks to make, ears around 3 and wings around 5. All timings are approximate - as we never know exactly what is in our making queue. We also have a Priority Making service too, that will speed it all up if you need something in a hurry 😁

Are there extra charges when someone orders something?

The short answer is no. However, there are often many ways to achieve different looks with our tails and ears. After a design meeting, we may offer you different approaches to create the look you want. Some of these, like airbrushing, may incur an extra charge. The same is true for highly complex designs. We will always ask you first before any extra work is carried out.

Can I get some work-in-progress pictures of my item?

Unfortunately not, as its rather difficult for us to do this. We handmake each item, hopefully in as efficient a way as we can, and don't get a chance to take pictures, unless it becomes part of a social media post. Sorry about that in advance.

I ordered a bundle, but only the tail (or the ears) arrived!

Tails and ears are made at different speeds. Have no fear, the other item is on its way.

Questions about using our items

Are there manuals?

Yes, you can find our manuals here: Manuals

Is there an App to control the gear?

The app is called “Crumpet” - just search for that, or “The Tail Company” from the app store you use - its free and we give it updates as often as we can.

When you get a tail, ears or flutterwings, theres also a qr code you can use to download the app. Here is the Link to the Google Play store: CRUMPET, the Tail Company App!

Do you need an internet connection to use our gear?

No, only a bluetooth connection to your phone, which - once set up - can happily go in a pocket or a bag.

Do I need special batteries?

Baby Tails: any alkaline batteries will work but Lithium batteries are highly recommended! They have the power to do all the moves, and keep the lights on longest, lasting 7x longer than Alkalines.

MiTails, EarGear and MiWings? No! They're built in rechargeable.

Do tails, ears and wings make sound?

All things with servos inside them will make sound - how much depends on what they are covered with, and which move they are making. The vast majority of people are not bothered by it all. There are videos on our Instagram and TikTok that let you hear the sound. But remember - that's one tail, covered one way, and recorded on a certain phone. It may be a little different for you. MiWings are pretty silent.

Can I wear my tails, ears and wings everywhere?

Whilst we would love to say yes, there are circumstances where wearing a tail is a bad idea. Riding a motorbike for example! Operating heavy machinery. Deep sea diving. Anywhere it might get caught in something and damage it, or damage you! Our MiTails, EarGear and MiWings can be removed quickly to help with this. So please wag responsibly!

My tail, ears, wings wont charge. What can I do?

Each of our items comes with its own charger, and whilst EarGear and MiTail chargers look similar, they only work with the item they came with. EarGear charger for example wont charge MiTail for example. MiWings needs its own charger, and \*the power switch on the battery must be on for it to charge\*

Can I modify or adapt your gear?

Yes you can! And in fact there is a vibrant community of makers that do just that. Come and talk to us in our dev group on Telegram.

Can I get a pattern to make my own covers?

Oh yes! [We have a pattern listing for nice paper patterns here](https://thetailcompany.com/product/paper-patterns-for-mitail-and-eargear/).

Here are some patterns in digital form for download:

Is there something I should / shouldn't do with my gear

Yes there is - it's all in our Responsible Wagging Guide!
